Sam's art is the culmination of his interest in abstraction, architecture and the coast. Each of his square forms are painted individually, then combined into a final grid composition. His abstract-relief works provide the foundation for layering of colour and texture, and are mostly inspired by St Ives harbour and beach scenes. He loves the luminescence of summer, the moody depths of winter, and everything in-between. His brighter works are often inspired by orange buoys and harbour boats, whilst his darker hues plunge colours into the inky depths of high tide.
