Joanna was born in Sussex, and now paints from her countryside studio in Essex. Her early work explored a variety of genres, techniques and subjects, allowing her to enjoy freedom and unencumbered expression.

As she developed her craft in acrylic on canvas, her style has evolved, and she now works almost entirely in abstract. This embodies her emotional self, whilst fostering her creativity. Translating a feeling or thought into shape, form and colour has become a powerful and cathartic experience for Joanna. She is excited by the never ending loop of interpretations her viewers respond with, which so often have no tangible link to the physical world. This way of creating and communicating feels most authentic to her.
